 Exhibition Manager's Reflections

3rd July: One week after we were setting the hall up, it is time to reflect on another successful show.  In spite of the difficult economic climate, attendance was up around 10% and everyone attending, public, guests, exhibitors and trade seemed to enjoy the weekend.  It is good to think back and recognise that over the 17 years we have run this event, it has gone from success to success and is now well established in the UK's calendar of model railway exhibitions. We have already started to plan 2010 (and 2011!) and already have guest layouts in place and soon a new page will appear on this site to let you know what will be coming. Once again, we will be striving to bring the best layouts to Perth and if the queue on the Saturday morning says anything, it is that enthusiasts and modellers like to be there early to see what we have brought along.  The experiment to expand into a second hall worked well and it is our intention to pack more in next year including some live steam!. Now, time for summer!

Here is a view of the busy scene, looking towards the middle of the main hall with our layout Old Blarney in the foreground. Who is the guest operator?

The winner of Best Layout in Show as voted by the public was East Kilbride MRC with their layout Burnfoot. This layout contains a wealth of scenic detail and cameo scenes and in our opinion was a deserving winner.  Here, our Chairman Alan Smith presents the shield.

The winner of the Robert Bruce Memorial Shield for scenic modelling was John Smith with his O gauge layout Sellindge; Murray Hardie made the presentation.  It is quite rare to see a Southern layout in Scotland and congratulations to John and his team for puting on a great display of O gauge modelling.  Inspirational!
