In early December, 2013, we relocated to new a workshop in Meikleour, Perthshire.
It was all hands to the pumps to move the entire club, including all the layouts and all the accumulated contents of our club room in one day. We already had a head start as we had already taken Laurencekirk there directly after the Falkirk show the previous Sunday so at least one of the bigger layouts was moved. Maybe like any other "flit" a furniture van was called for...also a trailer and several cars and two round trips!
Our club is now situated in the village of Meikleour and the weather held up well for us to complete the move.
There was even time for a few members to have a very welcome bowl of soup and refreshment in front of a log fire in the pub in the village afterwards.
The New Workshop.
We have leased premises which have been designed for use as an industrial unit so a considerable amount of work is required to allow us to create the facilities required to cover all aspects of our hobby. The first job we identified was to paint the brick and block walls and over the Christmas period a gang was hard at work sealing and painting.
23rd January 2014: We plan to develop a layout room within the workshop but as this will take a little time to get things started we cleared some space and have erected 4 layouts: Aldbury (OO Gauge DCC) which is to be photographed for a forthcoming article for British Railway Modelling magazine next weekend; Laurencekirk (OO Gauge) - it needs work doing to complete it in time for Perth and will serve as a good running layout for members (the first train to run in our new premises was an ex- GW Pannier and Autotrailer!); Whyte Hills Pass (N gauge) again for running and preparation for shows; The Coeur d'Alene Railway (On30) which needs to be prepared for forthcoming exhibitions. So already we have started modelling activities! Most important of all is that the coffee and tea facilities are working and there is a good stock of biscuits!
View of Laurencekirk without any of the buildings the viewer would normally see at an exhibition.
Aldbury being prepared for photography. We have a keen photographer in the club too!
Next job - build storage racks for the layouts not in use...
